Proposed drug and alcohol rehabilitation center the Salvation Army in Plains Township is part of the "solution" to addiction crisis area and would be a good neighbor to dozens of families who live nearby, a spokesman for the organization said Friday.
A day after neighbors vowed to fight the proposed Center on the former site Valley Crest Nursing Home, spokesman Tim Raines Salvation Army attempted to allay their fears and address what he believes are misconceptions about these installations.
"I can understand them, but I don't think they are valid concerns," Raines said."People won't appear in our front door, drunk and high".
Those enrolling in the program normally do it references, and the participants showed that want to kick the habit, he said.
Suggestions by neighbors that participants have the luxury of roaming freely around the neighborhood are not true, he said.
Their days are structured with programs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and must sign always wanting to quit Setup, how to go to a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous, he said.
Raines said that installations are not frightening, violent place that people insinuate. His parents were employees of the Salvation Army and he was often work with them as they grow, watching people transform their lives and stay sober for years.
"Sort of went created running round rehabilitation centers of the time that I could walk. I'm well-acquainted with people who come to our program and whose lives are changed."Is a great thing to watch, said Raines.
The Salvation Army is seeking for their Adult rehabilitation centers in Wilkes-Barre Scranton and to consolidate operations in Crest Valley ex-shutter County property.
Dozens of residential houses are adjacent to 62-acre property, and several housing developments are close by. Neighbors say that your community is calm and off the beaten path and could be endangered, bringing the lines 175 junkies just feet from your property. they say that some of these addicts will walk out of the program, leaving the potential for damage, theft or violent crime.
Counter Salvation Army officials saying not treated addicts are already walking the streets,
"The main reason for being in the area is needed. Raines said that we are there to be part of the solution."The problem already exists in our backyard. It is already there; I'd be willing to bet that the problem already exists unless this neighborhood is an anomaly unbelievable "
